With apologies for cross-posting.   Hello there, Firstly, I hope you are very well and looking forward to a peaceful break.  As you know, this Christmas Appeal is raising funds to directly assist destitute refugees and asylum seekers and their families. Thousands of would be refugees have risked their lives to find safety here, only to find themselves "fast tracked" into destitution and poverty. We are deeply grateful for all the support our donors have given to this Appeal. Thank you to the many housing associations, Quaker groups , Churches, Synagogues, Masjids and Trade Union Branches who have donated. Thank you also to the hundreds of individuals who have taken the time to give a donation. If you have not donated yet, please help us reach our goal now so that we can assist everyone who needs help. As of today, we still need to raise £6,000 by Christmas. So any support you can give through one off or regular donations is much appreciated. See below for how you can donate and make a real difference in someone's life so that they can begin to rebuild.   454 children, women and men have now been referred to Positive Action in Housing's Winter surgery for emergency crisis support. Hundreds have been referred by our caseworkers, the British Red Cross, Scottish Refugee Council the Refugee Council and others. We are now distributing emergency support in the week leading up to Christmas.    Amongst those needing your help are terminally ill cancer patients without any funds or accommodation, many children who go to school hungry, pregnant women who can't afford to eat properly or keep warm, elderly people with no home or family living hand to mouth, long term destitute asylum seekers living in constant fear of being evicted from their accommodation, families who are put out of jobs because of home office delays in deciding their immigration status and risk losing their social tenancies, with no money for food, essential travel or to heat their accommodation.    Help us to help in this refugee crisis ...   Right now, our caseworkers are working hard to help individuals work out their options and build stable lives. We have 40 volunteers lined up to provide help and support to individuals. Crisis grants will be distributed, along with bus tokens, food cards and hygiene packs. Children will also receive books, art and selection boxes. In the long-term your donation will enable people to rebuild their lives with dignity.    We need you to stand up for refugees and help protect their human rights.    Any donation you give, no matter how small, is appreciated.   DONATE ONLINE   Donate online safely and securely via BTMydonate, and add your message of support. Refused refugees have no right to housing, jobs or state support. New refugees are routinely left destitute despite being entitled to support. As well as humanitarian aid, we proactively help people to resolve a crisis and rebuild their lives. The government's decision to force refugees to travel to Liverpool to prove their cases means we are giving travel grants to those without funds. In 2017, we gave over £42,000 in crisis grants to destitute people from mainly Syria, Eritrea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine and Yemen. Winter Refugee Crisis Appeal Support our Emergency Relief Fund for destitute refugees and asylum seekers and their families   Donate       Christmas Appeal - Help Refugees   This  Christmas appeal is raising funds to directly support destitute refugees and asylum seekers and their families.    Your donation will assist children, women and men who have fled war and persecution in their own countries, leaving behind loved ones, friends and everything they know. They have risked their lives to find safefy here. Unfortunately, thousands of would be refugees are being "fast tracked" into destitution. Positive Action in Housing works to provide a breathing space so that individuals and families can find the breathing space to work out their options with the support of their lawyer, caseworker and other support network.   The Lifeline Service offers shelter, crisis grants, food and help to destitute refugees and asylum seekers. Refused refugees have no right to housing, jobs or state support. New refugees are routinely left destitute despite being entitled to support. As well as humanitarian aid, we proactively help people to resolve a crisis and rebuild their lives. The government's decision to force refugees to travel to Liverpool to prove their cases means we are giving travel grants to those without funds.    In 2017, we gave over £42,000 in crisis grants to destitute people from mainly Syria, Eritrea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine and Yemen. Since September 2015, we have arranged over 47,000 nights of free shelter in the homes of volunteer hosts in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh and elsewhere.    However, there is a growing destitution crisis. the numbers of families referred to our charity has trebled.    At Christmas time each year, Positive Action in Housing runs a two day winter surgery to see those facing extreme hardship at this time of the year. We have had 300 referrals from our own caseworkers in Glasgow. We have also taken referrals of hardship cases from the British Red Cross, Scottish Refugee Council and many other organisations supporting refugees all over the country. Small crisis grants will be distributed, along with bus tokens, food cards and hygiene packs. Children will also receive books, art and selection boxes.    During this freezing weather, we are provioding support to hundreds of vulnerable children, women and men. We expect a much greater demand from the elderly, pregnant women, families and the sick. With your help we can do more.
