🆘 URGENT CALL TO ACTION: UK Still Blocking Visas and Safety for Palestinians
We have all seen the images from Gaza. Food remains scarce. There are no safe zones. Over 200,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured.
Last month, our supporters wrote to MPs and, infuriatingly, we got no straight answers. Biometric waivers have still not been granted. Palestinian students face academic exile; families face starvation. These are people with the right to enter the UK—yet they remain trapped.
Read Dr Majed's Story: He is volunteering as a doctor inside Gaza. He won a prestigious place at Glasgow University. The course begins next month, but the UK government has not issued visas or made any arrangements for him or his fellow students. Other European countries have already acted, evacuating hundreds of Palestinian students studying at their universities. Retweet.
These are some of the brightest minds, offered places at UK universities, and yet they watch as other governments communicate with their students and evacuate them—while those attending British universities are left in limbo. They have suffered unbelievable trauma, and still no one at the Home Office is taking action to provide visas so they can begin their courses.
Positive Action in Housing is urgently calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to immediately grant visas and defer biometric requirements for Palestinian medics with confirmed university offers in the UK, and for the dependents of Palestinian refugees already in the UK—just as was done for Ukrainian refugees.
This is entirely within the Home Secretary's power. Every day that visas and biometrics are delayed is costing lives. This is something Yvette Cooper and Keir Starmer can do now to save lives.
It's time to do the right thing—just as Ireland, France, Belgium, and Germany have done. Grant swift visas. Defer biometrics. Arrange evacuations from Gaza.
Palestinian students whose universities have been bombed, whose lecturers have been killed and who have lost entire families, are asking the UK government to take action to save their lives, and give them a chance to rekindle their hopes and dreams.
So please act now. Apply pressure. Do the right thing.
Write to your MP and demand that visas are granted and biometrics deferred. It takes just a few seconds to send a template letter to your MP.
