End Of Year Message

Dear Friend,

As we approach Christmas, unimaginable horrors are still unfolding against the people of Gaza. The photo above, taken a few days ago, is of a family living 25 to a tent in a school in Nuseirat camp. Several Palestinians whom we are supporting are struggling to process the loss of entire families. The UK government has refused to provide an amnesty for Palestinian asylum seekers similar to the Ukraine programme.

In 2024, the world's refugee population is set to soar by millions. Reckless UK government policies and a failure of all governments to act proactively to build new homes for everyone have rendered thousands of people fleeing war, torture and persecution at risk of homelessness this winter.

Thanks to you there is still hope.

In 2023, we helped 3,333 families from 64 countries including Palestine, Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen to rebuild their lives and find hope.

Thanks to you, our caseworkers provided one to one advice and representation to 976 refugee and migrant families at risk of imminent homelessness.

Thanks to you, we arranged shelter for 1,173 children, women and men via Room for Refugees, (an idea pioneered by our small charity in Scotland that went viral across the world 🌎).

Thanks to you, we distributed £178K in crisis grants from our Emergency Relief Fund for food, clothing, baby items, shelter, energy grants

Thanks to you, we supported 761 households to stay digitally connected, keep in touch with lawyers, GPs and loved ones and continue their studies.

Thanks to you, our 2023 Winter Refugee Crisis appeal is directly supporting over 400 families in urgent need with essential food supplies, clothes, phone data and baby items.

With the right advice, representation and support, we can keep people warm, fed and sheltered. But we need your support to meet the growing demand.

Please give what you can and please share this appeal with family and friends. Donate securely via Charities Aid FoundationJustGiving or PaypalGiving

Regular, small donations help us to plan life-saving interventions throughout the year.

Thanks again and I look forward to continuing our journey together in the upcoming year.

Best wishes and kind regards,

November 2023

Calling members, supporters, and the general public, including faith groups, trade union branches, and educational unions, to donate generously to our Scotland-wide Winter Refugee Crisis Appeal.

Dear Friends,

This Scotland-wide appeal is in aid of refugees and asylum seekers who are facing homelessness and/or living on as little as £1.40 a day. Our Winter Surgery is currently ongoing until Christmas Eve. Our staff and volunteers identifying over 500 refugee and asylum-seeking families in need of emergency support due to war and persecution in countries like Syria, Palestine, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iran, and Ukraine.

Glasgow's homelessness crisis is set to worsen with 1,400 asylum seekers at risk of destitution in December. As the city with the largest refugee population outside London, we fear that the Home Office's plan to clear the backlog of unresolved asylum cases will lead to a humanitarian crisis by increasing homelessness among refugees.

In the lead up to Christmas, we are providing vouchers to purchase essential food items and warm clothing, crisis payments for phone data and bus travel, and essential digital technology where possible to help people stay connected.  We are also assisting refugees to find hosted accommodation through our Room for Refugees Network. As well as Glasgow, we are providing emergency relief to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers across Scotland as the need arises.

We understand that times are tough for all of us, and appreciate any donation that you can give. Regular donations especially enable us to plan and execute life-saving interventions. All funds go directly to those in need. The gift aid raised will support our Destitution Service.

Thank you for all your support so far,

Best wishes and kind regards,

Robina Qureshi
