Christmas Appeal by the refugee and migrant homelessness charity Positive Action in Housing (SC027577) | | | Please give generously at CAF, JustGiving or PayPal Giving, or post a cheque to Positive Action in Housing, 98 West George St Glasgow G2 1PJ. | | Positive Action in Housing's annual two-day Winter surgery will provide 302 adults (including 4 pregnant women) and 228 child dependents from refugee and asylum seeking communities with essential crisis support over the Christmas and winter period.
This surgery is in aid of destitute refugee and asylum seeking families and lone individuals, and unaccompanied child refugees who have fled war and persecution, leaving behind loved ones and everything they know.
We will be providing crisis support to people from Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, Syria and many other refugee producing countries. You can read stories about some of the people we have helped in our annual impact report here.
Our hard working destitution caseworkers will be working to ensure that people get specialist advice, advocacy, signposting and practical support to resolve their legal, housing or financial crisis. We will also be working to provide safe shelter, with the essential needs of food, warmth, sanitation and cleanliness met through our community hosting programme Room for Refugees and Emergency Relief Fund. We will provide bus passes, food items, hygiene packs, essential winter survival packs, also selection boxes, books and craft packs for children aged 3 to 16 years old.
To provide this appeal, we must raise a further £10,000 by Christmas Day. All funds go towards directly assisting those in need. The gift aid from this appeal will go towards our Lifeline Service, which assisted 1,501 refugees and asylum seekers towards long term resolution of their housing and legal crisis.

This Winter Appeal will help vulnerable refugees and asylum seeking families, children, pregnant women, the elderly and sick survive the harsh winter period on their journey to building positive futures as equal citizens in our community. We focus resources on those at risk of exploitation: unaccompanied children, families, pregnant woman, the elderly and sick, and lone individuals living in poverty and people with health problems/disabilities. As well as arranging shelter, our Winter Surgery provides bus tokens, food vouchers and hygiene packs, with books and art materials for children. We will also provide crisis grants to ensure people in these vulnerable and at-risk groups do not go hungry, cold, or forced to live on the street. In 2018/19, Positive Action in Housing assisted 1,501 destitute refugees & asylum seekers from Syria, Eritrea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine and Yemen with advice, legal representation, shelter, and crisis funds at crucial stages in their settlement. We provided 48K nights of shelter (www.roomforrefugees.com) and distributed £60K from our Emergency Relief Fund – providing a genuine lifeline. We work to resolve a crisis and rebuild lives.
