Positive Action in Housing is a small refugee and migrant homelessness and human rights charity (SCO27577).

We have continued to provide essential advice, information and crisis support throughout this global pandemic.

The people we support have fled war and persecution in their own countries, risking their lives on dangerous journeys, to find sanctuary here, leaving loved ones, friends and all that they know.

We provide advice, information, resources and essential crisis support so that people are not left hungry, cold, or homeless. We help resolve crises and progress our service users' legal cases so they can get on with their lives, instead of being prevented from working or contributing.

Our pioneering approach has produced life-transforming outcomes for people left without hope.

We work closely with some of the most vulnerable people affected by the refugee crisis, many of whom are still trying to make a home for themselves and their loved ones.
  • People like *Saira and her two children, *Aliyah, aged 11,  and *Ali aged 9 . Saira has not seen her husband *Mohammad, since he crossed the Mediterranean three years ago in order to flee the War. she is waiting for her asylum claim to be resolved. Her children need warm winter-wear and Saira would appreciate a crisis grant.
  • People like *Fajr from Iran - who was still wearing surgical stockings following major surgery the day before - when he was moved by Mears from a hotel into a dirty, bare flat without money, food or wifi. Our volunteers brought him nutritious food, cleaning products and donations.
  • And people like "Asma from Pakistan, a *lawyer seeking asylum in Glasgow, who  is suffering isolation and stress because she has been placed in a shared Home Office flat with someone who suffers severe mental health problems. She has been seeking asylum for 4 years, yet still awaiting a decision.
Members of our Humans of Glasgow Volunteer network are helping distribute emergency grants, food, and things like bus passes or phone top-ups. We are having to plug the gaps despite multi-million pound contracts being handed out by the Home Office to provide accommodation and other services.

Support our Winter Appeal

In the run up to Christmas, our team will be safely distributing essential crisis support, PPE, food and bus vouchers, winter-wear and hygiene kits to 200 asylum seeking families and individuals in Glasgow (which has the highest asylum population in the UK).

Our package of support will help people get through the Winter period and use these essential resources to keep healthy and keep good mental health. We will focus on those at risk of exploitation: unaccompanied children, families, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with health problems/disabilities.
By giving a donation you will be directly supporting those who have fled war and persecution in their own countries, risking their lives on dangerous journeys, to find sanctuary here, leaving loved ones, friends and all that they know.

Any donation you can give, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated, with every penny spent on providing direct emergency relief. Regular donations are particularly helpful as they help us plan out our support.
Please forward this email to your friends, family or coworkers, and get in touch if you need any other information.
