March 15, 2022 Over 3M people have escaped Ukraine since the Russian invasion. With the number of civilian deaths growing, people are fleeing for their lives. According to the UN, as many as 5M could flee in the coming weeks. On the border with Ukraine, Poland has received over 1.7 million refugees, Romania has taken over 400K, Moldova, one of the poorest countries in Europe, has accepted over 330,000 refugees according to UN Stats . | | In contrast, the UK remains the only country in Europe not to lift visa restrictions and let Ukrainians in. Over 100K members of the public have expressed an interest in hosting refugees through the government's "Home for Ukrainians" Scheme in return for a payment of £350 per month. The government will not be matching British people with Ukrainians. Those who are interested will need to identify Ukrainians and then they must fill in an extensive visa application naming the intended "hosts". For more info see this article. To address this, we have created a Ukrainians Register for families fleeing the war. So far, twenty one families have registered overnight and we are working to assess their requests and identify host families from our Room for Refugees database. To be matched with someone you must be registered to host with Room for Refugees. Once matched, we will proceed to the visa application stage to try to quickly bring families through the Homes for Ukrainians route. For more info and links see below. Call To Action - Ukraine Appeal Ukrainians Register Ukrainian residents and nationals fleeing the conflict should complete this online request form . We will match Ukrainians to volunteer hosts.
