Latest news from Positive Action in Housing Safe return to the office  Throughout the pandemic we have had a skeleton team operating in the office to distribute crisis support to people from refugee, asylum seeking and Migrant communities. On August 19, however, most of our team were back at their desks. To keep everyone safe, our staff are expected to self-test twice a week, wear masks while on the move and socially distance. The routine of going into work is exhilarating. The charity's first hybrid board meeting was exciting and our trustees talked a lot more than usual, over vegan falafel wraps, made by a nearby newly opened Syrian Deli. Zoom has its uses of course, but there is nothing like face to face interaction and asking a colleague a random question that pops into your head. That's how ideas happen. And as a charity supporting people who don't know their rights, or the paper to hand us, whose first language is not English and who may not be digitally literate, it's vital that we don't lose the face to face interaction. To join us, please visit our membership page.  Twins Asna and Sana reach safety Twins Asna and Sana Hashimi, both five, are amongst the few preparing for a new life in the U.K. after fleeing Afghanistan. Their father Nooragha Hashimi - who worked as a translator with the Royal Engineers - said he would've been killed if he hadn't been on the evacuation flight. The Afghan Crisis Few can fail to be moved after seeing the heartbreaking footage showing two crying children being left behind at Kabul airport after their parents were able to enter the airport without them after a mad scramble outside. ​Around 1,800 U.K. citizens and 2,275 Afghans who worked with the UK are still in Kabul waiting to be airlifted. Since August 14, US and Nato flights have evacuated 37,000 people. Up to 1,000 Afghans who helped British troops face being left behind. We have witnessed an increase in the numbers of households from Glasgow, London - and elsewhere across Scotland, the U.K. and the U.S.A. - offering to host refugees as a result of the ongoing Afghan Crisis.  (We are happy to work with local authorities to access our register of people who are keen to provide homes to child refugees and/or their families - if only the Home Secretary would give the green light).  See below for how you can help.  Take Action If you or someone you know, wants to offer a spare room or property temporarily to someone from a refugee background, please visit https://www.roomforrefugees.com. and fill in the online form: https://paih.typeform.com/to/dl4g60.  Give a regular donation  Please support our Emergency Relief Fund which gives out small crisis grants to people from refugee backgrounds. A regular donation provides money for food, travel on buses and essential mobile phone too ups.
